Lorraine B. Flynn, formerly of Woburn, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 16th, 2023 at Lahey Hospital. She was 102 years young. Lorraine was born on July 10th, 1920 in Chelsea, Massachusetts.
The daughter of the late Joseph H. Flynn and Mary (Moran) Flynn, Lorraine grew up and attended school in Chelsea, skipping grades due to her outstanding studentship, which continued into her college career. She went on to achieve a master’s degree at Salem State, pursuing a career in education to fulfill her dream of becoming a grade school teacher. Always an overachiever in the field of education, Lorraine was promoted to principal at the Shurtleff Savings School in Chelsea, MA.
Aside from her devotion to teaching, Lorraine was an avid reader, bowler, and golfer. She also had a love for knitting and baking. Her chocolate chip cookies and coffee mallow pie are family favorites that will never be forgotten. Lorraine spoke kindly about everyone, holding love for all. Always quick-witted and funny, she held these qualities through her retirement and up until her passing.
Lorraine’s greatest passion was her family. She is predeceased by her brother, Joseph H. Flynn Jr., and his wife, Catherine, with whom she lived for her whole adult life until their respective passings. Lorraine was the devoted aunt of James Flynn and his wife, Mimi, of Woburn; Patricia Guiseppe and her husband, Larry, of Woburn; and Joseph H. Flynn and his wife, Joanna, of Billerica.
Lorraine is survived by many more, including her grandnieces Lauren, Lindsey, Johanna, Justine, and Jillian, all of whom brought her so much pride. She is also survived by her great-grandnieces and grandnephews Nikolaos, Catherine Lorraine, Joseph, Jackson, Jennings, Victoria, and Alexandra, whose presence brought so much joy to her loving heart.
