Obituary for Joseph V. Manne
Joseph V. Manne, beloved husband of Marguerite A. (Dellato) Manne, age 75, died peacefully Dec. 23 at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center surrounded by his loving children. He was the devoted husband of Marguerite Manne with whom he celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on September 6th.
He was born in Boston, Sept 6, 1946 a son of the late Joseph and Antoniette M. (Lagrassa) Manne and lived in Bostons North End before moving to Billerica in 1974.
Joseph spent his entire career as a baker. As a young boy he worked alongside his father, learning the trade. He went on to open Manne’s Bakery in the North End with his brother Carl. Upon retirement they were proud to pass on the family business to their sons, the third generation of Manne bakers. Joseph enjoyed visiting the bakery now located in Revere, MA and working alongside the boys where they continue to roll bread by hand, 79 years later.
In his spare time he enjoyed playing the racehorses, attending all of his grandchildrens sporting events and the Sunday family dinners. He will be most remembered for the love and care he gave to his family and especially for the devotion and selflessness he showed in caring for his wife Marguerite for the last several years.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Carla Bragg and her husband Michael, Ann Smith and her husband Scott and Joseph Manne and his wife Melanie all of Billerica; his siblings Anna Porcella and her husband Bob of Billerica and Carl Manne and his wife Joyce of Reading; his six grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, Michael, Jonathan, Sofia and Olivia as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral Thursday from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4 – 7 p.m. Masks are required while indoors at both locations. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
In lieu of flowers, Joseph’s wishes were for donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, in honor of his loving wife Marguerite.
