Obituary for Edward R. Gass Jr.
Edward R. Gass Jr. – Age 83, beloved husband of Anita (Bertini) Gass died peacefully Monday at their home with his family at his side.
He was born in Arlington, August 1, 1937, a son of the late Raymond E. Gass and Margaret (Chaplin) Gass and was raised in Arlington before moving to Billerica in 1960.
Ed was employed as a Police Officer for the Town of Billerica from 1968-1993 and later worked road details in the town. Ed and his partner George were the first Motorcycle Police Officers in Billerica. He was also a member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks.
He was proud to be an American Legion baseball player, and was an avid Red Sox Fan. He loved collecting old cars and enjoyed going to antique tractor shows. He was a big animal lover, especially his beloved Barney the Beagle! Ed also loved camping with his wife, and spending time in Vermont with Wild Bill.
Besides his wife, Ed is survived by his daughters, Patricia Collinge and her husband Daniel of Tyngsboro, Linda Gass of South Windsor, CT, Karen Filippone and her husband David of Billerica and Marilyn Smith and her husband Brian of Nashua, NH; his sons, James Gass of South Boston and John Gass and his wife Kelly of Windham, NH and his daughter-in-law Linda A. Gass of Lowell
He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren and loving niece Margaret Peterson of Woburn.
He was predeceased by his sons Edward R. Gass III and David P. Gass, and grandson Stephen P. Gass. Also predeceased by his brothers Donald of Arlington and John of Myrtle Beach.
A graveside service will be held Thursday at the Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd., Billerica at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s name to the American Heart Association www.heart.org.
