William R. “Mac” McCarthy, age 90, beloved husband of 69 years of Pauline F. (Smith) McCarthy died Wednesday, Nov 8, at the Blaire House in Tewksbury after a period of declining health.
He was born in Somerville, October 10, 1933 a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dennis McCarthy and grew up in Somerville before moving to Burlington for a period of time and finally settling in Billerica over 50 years ago.
Mac was a graduate of Somerville High School where he met his wife Pauline then proudly served in the US Marine Corps. during the Korean War attaining the rank of Cpl. Afterwards went on to a long career with Boston Edison as a lineman/troubleman.
He was member of Local 396 and a former member of the Billerica Knights of Columbus as well as being a longtime member of St. Theresa Church in Billerica.
Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Brian McCarthy and his wife Elizabeth of Billerica; his daughter-in-law Kelly McCarthy of Billerica; three nieces Nancy McCarthy, June Restivo and Peggy Hall as well as his beloved grandchildren, James, Julia, Conor, Aidan and Kyla. He was the father of the late Kevin McCarthy.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, Nov17 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4 – 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Nov 18 at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org
