William R. Closs, age 93, beloved husband of the late Alice (Ferreira) Closs died Wednesday at Lowell General Hospital – Main Campus.
He was born in Endicott, NY July 31, 1930 a son of the late Howard E. and Beatrice S. (Wormouth) Closs and lived in Billerica for 47 years before moving to Tewksbury in 2014.
Bill proudly served in the US Marine Corps for 20 years attaining the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and served during the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War.
After retiring from the Marine Corps he was employed as a truck driver for Plymouth Rock Trucking, as well as Pilgrim and Lily Trucking.
He is survived by three sons, William Closs Jr. and his wife Monique of Merrimack, NH, Steven Closs and his wife Judith of Merrimack, NH and John Closs and his wife Donna of Billerica; one brother, Robert E. Closs of Rochester, NY; four grandchildren, Christina Closs, William Closs III, Caroline Closs and Tricia Marie Closs as well as two great-grandchildren, Maisie and Lily Closs. He was the brother of the late Dorothy Coleman.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 10 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica, MA from 1 – 4 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, Sept 11, in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
