Obituary for William P. 'Sonny' Lydon
William P. “Sonny” Lydon – Age 77, Beloved husband of Kathleen A. Collins to whom he was married for 50 years died Sunday surrounded by his family. He was born in Boston, May 23, 1936, the son of the late Michael W. and Alice (Finley) Lydon and was raised in S. Boston before moving to Billerica in 1967. Mr. Lydon served in the Army for two terms and was a Korean War Veteran having been stationed in Germany and Oklahoma. He was a proud member of Local 103 Electrical Union for 57 years. He and his wife were the former owners of the Dot Tavern in Dorchester for 33 years. Besides spending time with his wonderful and devoted wife, children and grandchildren, Mr. Lydon was an avid sports fan, enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and was a talented Jeopardy player. He loved his Irish heritage. He and his wife loved to travel, especially to Las Vegas and Ireland. He was well loved and respected by everyone he touched, he offered support and help to those in need. He was a member of the Billerica Elks #2071 and the American Legion. Besides his wife, Mr. Lydon is survived by his sons, Daniel Lydon and his wife Jackie of Reading and Michael Lydon of Malden; his daughter, Mary Conway and her husband Greg of Billerica; his brothers, Richard Lydon of Scituate and Edward Lydon of Quincy; nine grandchildren, Will, Declan, Samantha, Patrick, Liam and Seana Lydon, Ashley and Nicolas Cantrell and Kaylee Conway and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Patricia Lydon. LYDON – Of Billerica, formerly of S. Boston, Nov. 17, William P. Lydon, Funeral Thursday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church, Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
