William Joseph Burke, Esquire, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving family. Son of the late Dorothy and D. Joseph Burke and was the eldest child of the family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eva Mary Burke (Aliberti) and their children Dorothy McCarthy, Ann Burke Cook, William Joseph Burke Jr, Eva Bonde, and Teresa Burke. He was a cherished brother to Joseph Burke and Margaret Dery.
William was a man of great accomplishments and dedication. He graduated top of his class from Belmont High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He further pursued his passion for law and obtained a Law degree from Suffolk University.
For over 50 years, William served as a beloved professor and Chair of Legal Studies at the University of Massachusetts in Lowell. His commitment to education and his students was unwavering, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many.
Prior to his career in academia, William served his country as a Captain in the United States Army. His service was a testament to his patriotism and dedication to his fellow citizens.
William will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. He was an outstanding grandfather to seven loving grandchildren and one great granddaughter. His presence in their lives brought joy, laughter and inspiration.
The loss of William Joseph Burke Esq. leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will be cherished and his legacy will live on through the lives he touched. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, March 27 at Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd, Billerica, between 3:00-6:00pm. In lieu of flowers, please make any charitable donation to your preferred charity.
