Obituary for William J. 'Bill' Quinlan

William J. ‘Bill’ Quinlan, 81 of Billerica, passed away on Friday, September 13th. He was the husband of Sandra (Wentworth) Quinlan.

Born on April 26, 1943 and raised in Boston, Bill was a son to the late Bernard and Eleanora (Travalagia) Quinlan. He has lived in Billerica for over twenty years, and also was a long-time resident of Stoneham where he raised his family and worked as a plumber in the area.

Bill was born with the strong work ethic of his generation. As one of his first jobs, he worked at KLH in Cambridge, where through mutual friend, Dot D’Angelis, he met his future wife Sandra. After marrying, Bill and Sandy moved out of the city to Stoneham, where they raised five children. Bill was generous to a fault, and would often spend his weekends in service to his friends and family offering his expertise in plumbing. Bill also regularly donated his time as a proud member of the Stoneham Redmen and the Billerica Elks lodge in community service projects. Bill was happiest when surrounded by people. He was an avid card player and enjoyed many an evening playing poker or cribbage with friends and family. Later in life, spending time with his grown children and grandchildren brought him the most joy.

Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his daughters and son, Lisa Quinlan of Billerica, Christine Black and her husband Jim of Billerica, Sandra Rivers and her husband Brian of Merrimack, NH; Sean Quinlan and his wife Julia of Billerica and Beth Fowler and her husband Brian of Hudson, NH; brothers and sisters, Bernard, Robert and John Quinlan, Eleanora Morrison, Margaret Ormberg, Anne Marie Quinlan, Kathleen D’Aniello, and Gina Cuff; grandchildren Ryan and Matthew Black, Jillian and Benjamin Rivers; Vivian Quinlan and William Fowler. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his siblings, Richard, James, Michael, Warren, Charles and Christopher Quinlan; Patricia Tammaro and Mary Louise Sanborn.

A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Collation and interment will be held privately on a later date, at the request of the family. Flowers are welcome, however in lieu of flowers a donation may be made In Memoriam to the American Cancer Society.
