WILLIAM G. (Billy) AHEARN Loving Husband, Brother, Father, Grandpa, Uncle and Always a Gentleman William G. (Billy)Ahearn – Age 76, husband of the late Mary “Fran” (Casey) Ahearn passed away peacefully on October 4th after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Lowell, February 17, 1936, the son of the late Thomas P. and Dorothy J. (Lowney) Ahearn and was raised in Lowell. He attended Sacred Heart and St. Margaret grammar school and later graduated from Lowell High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Korean War. He later returned to Lowell and went to work for Verizon, formerly NET&T (New England Telephone and Telegraph) and retired after over 30 years of service. He met Mary “Fran” (Casey)(Travis) the love of his life and they married on July 27, 1979. They settled in Chelmsford, MA, where they were parishioners of St. Mary Church for thirty three years. Bill and Fran loved to travel spending many winters golfing at Hilton Head, SC and in Florida. Golf was Bill’s passion which he and Fran played for many years. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Golf Club where he also played 45s with his friends. Bill was a member of the American Legion and the Hynes Golf League at the Green Meadow Golf Club in Hudson, NH. He loved his chocolate, the Red Sox and if there was a family gathering going on, there was also sure to be a Cribbage game. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Fran, who passed away July 27, 2012. He is survived by his sons, Paul Travis and his wife Maureen Roberts of Billerica and Brian Travis of Salem, NH; his daughter, Cindy Lowrie and her husband Robert of Gainesville, GA; his grandchildren, Tara Travis of Lincoln, NE and Travis and Ally Lowrie of Gainesville, GA; his brothers, Thomas Ahearn and his wife Shirley of Indiantown, FL and Terrence Ahearn of Lowell; his sisters, Dorothy Ayer and her husband Donald and Ruthanne Fitton and her husband Robert all of Chelmsford and Claudia Jean Kovac of Greenville, PA. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Ahearn on N. Chelmsford and many nieces and nephews as well as his brother-in-law, Henry Casey and niece Susan Oullette. He was the brother of the late David Ahearn and brother-in-law of Robert Kovac. Billy, we love you and you will be missed dearly. AHEARN – Of Chelmsford, October 4, William G. Ahearn, Funeral Tuesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9:45 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, Chelmsford at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Center at Lowell General Hospital, 295 Varnum Ave., Lowell, MA 01854Burial in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Chelmsford.
