Obituary for William F. Grammer Jr.

William (“Billy”) F. Grammer Jr. – Age 69, beloved husband of Kathleen (“Kathy”) A. Geswell Grammer died peacefully Friday, October 20, at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington.

He was born in Woburn, November 12, 1953, a son of the late William F. Grammer Sr. and Anne (Cicchetto) Grammer and was raised in Woburn and moved to Billerica 48 years ago. He proudly served in the US Army.

Billy spent his youth helping his father care for horses at his barn, which not only fostered Billy’s love of animals, but also granted him the opportunity to meet Kathy. Quickly enamored of each other, the two enjoyed a 3-week dating period before being married. The two were inseparable for 49 years.

Professionally, Billy was Truck Driver for UPS Freight having worked there for over 20 years prior to his retirement.

Billy had a lot of recreational passions throughout his life. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed many deer hunting trips up North with friends and family. He found peace in fishing any river, lake or ocean – especially when his grandson Brayden accompanied him.

His love of the road extended beyond his trucking career to motorcycles. He was a proud Harley Davidson owner and while he enjoyed riding for fun, he also participated in several charity rides to support fellow Veterans or those with special needs.

If you knew Billy though, you know his one true love beyond his family was the music in his soul. He hosted legendary jam sessions with a variety of his talented musician friends, filling his basement with the sounds of everyone from Dylan to the Grateful Dead to STP. If any symbol personifies Billy, it is his acoustic guitar: unassuming and consistent with the ability to create joy and unite strangers.

Billy was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Grammer and his sister, Kathleen (Grammer) Josephson.

Besides his wife, Billy is survived by his daughters, Laura Post of Tewksbury and Robin Grammer of Melrose and his sons-in-law, Joby Post and Alex Shure; his sister, Ann Marie Graham of Auburn, NH, his grandchildren, Victoria, Brayden and Shailagh Post, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. at St. Matthew The Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church at 466 Boston Road, Billerica, MA. 01821 at 10 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow the Mass at the Tewksbury Knight of Columbus at 2068 Main St, Tewksbury, MA 01876. Memorial contributions may be made in Billy’s name to https://www.projectcomeback.org/ .
