Obituary for William C. Blades, Jr.
William C. Blades, Jr. – Age 91, husband of the late Barbara R. (Gibbons) Blades died peacefully in his sleep Monday at the Life Care Center of Merrimack Valley in Billerica. He was born in Wilmington, August 25, 1923, son of the late William C. Blades, Sr. and Edith (Meuse) Blades and lived in Billerica for the past 67 years. Mr. Blades proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was a member of the V.F. W. Post 2597 and the Billerica Lodge of Elks. For many years, Mr. Blades was employed as a plasterer and general contractor. He is survived by his daughters, Judy Magnan and her husband Bill of Billerica, Edie Soley and her husband Bob of Methuen and Suzanne Dempsey and her husband Mike of Billerica; his brothers, Richard Blades of FL, Donald Blades of NH and Ralph Blades of VA; his grandchildren, Traci Mendes, Brian Magnan, Karen Sheehan, Glen Magnan, Kirk Soley, Erin Pirrotta, Drew Soley, Jill Dempsey and Diane Dempsey, and nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Blades was the father of the late Lance Corporal William C. Blades, III USMC who died in the Vietnam War and brother of the late Edward Blades, Mary Merrill-Kasey, Theresa McCall and Margaret Dunham-Thebearge. Mr. Blades' family wishes to thank the staff of Life Care Center of MV, Elderly Services of MV and Lowell General Hospital - Saints Campus ER for their care and thoughtfulness. Blades Jr., Funeral Thursday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 10:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 150 Cambridge Park Dr., Cambridge, MA 02140. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
