Obituary for William J. Heavey
William J. Heavey, Age 74, beloved husband of Claire M. (Hart) Heavey passed peacefully on Saturday at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Boston, August 26, 1946, the eldest son of the late William J. Heavey Sr. and Elva P. (Barnett) Heavey. He was raised in Boston and graduated from Mission High School in 1964. He married his best friend Claire and they moved to Billerica in 1971. They recently celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary.
Bill loved his family and created many wonderful memories with them. He was a very faithful person and was a participant of many area Catholic churches. He taught us all about our one universal Catholic church. He was a very positive person and always saw the good in everything. He was a fan of all music including the Beatles and all Motown. Bill was an avid Boston sports fan and loved all the local teams. He enjoyed watching many of the Billerica High sports teams.
Bill was employed as a Software Engineer and later as a Manager for Digital Equipment Corporation in Maynard for 29 years. He later worked in the Facilities Department at St. Brigid Church in Lexington for 20 years having retired in 2018.
Besides his wife, Bill is survived by his daughter, Pamela LeBlanc and her husband Rick of West Newbury; his son, Kenneth Heavey and his wife Shannon of Merrimack, NH; his grandchildren, Kayleen, Matthew and Quinn; his brother, Arnold Heavey of Tewksbury and his sisters, Linda VanBuskirk of FL and Doris Chaplick of Salem, NH. He was predeceased by his brothers Kevin and Donald.
A private Funeral Mass was held at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church in Billerica and burial took place at the Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, www.stjude.org
