Obituary for Wanda Lucille Edie

WANDA LUCILLE EDIE, (nee BEAL; formerly CONA), 88, died 2/25/2023 in Billerica, Massachusetts, from a brain tumor. She moved to Massachusetts last year where she was surrounded by the love of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Wanda was born in Detroit and lived nearly her entire life in Algonac, Michigan. She is the daughter of Walter and Irene Beal.

Wanda received her B.A., cum laude, provisional teaching certificate, and Masters in Counseling degree from Eastern Michigan University. She was a math teacher in the Algonac Schools for over 35 years.

She was a devoted Catholic, and served on many committees over the years at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church, including Parish Council President. She was deeply involved in the community, and particularly enjoyed her time of service at the Algonac-Clay Historical Society.

Post-retirement, Wanda enjoyed traveling with her fun-loving travel buddies to far-away places such as Poland, the Holy Land, and Nigeria.

Wanda is survived by her brother, Eugene Beal, her son, Frank Cona Jr., daughter-in-law, Debbie, grandchildren Elise Cona Heaton (Jason), Travis Cona (Sheri), and Bridget Cona, step-daughter, Debby Young (Bill), and her bonus grandchildren Adam, Dustin and Chelsea Young, beloved great-grandchildren, James and Emmy Cona, her dear friend, Fr. Cornelius “Collins” Okeke, and so many other cherished life-long friends in Algonac. She joins her mom, dad, and husband, Joel Edie, in Heaven. Well done, good and faithful servant.

There will be a memorial mass and celebration of life at Our Lady on the River Parish (St. Catherine’s) in Algonac, Michigan, at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Wanda’s memory to the Algonac-Clay Township Historical Society, P.O. Box 228, Algonac MI 48001.
