Obituary for Walter F. Coakley
BILLERICA Walter F. Coakley, age 84, husband of Mary (Phillips) Coakley died Friday at Palm Manor Nursing Home in Chelmsford.

He was born in Somerville, December 28, 1925, a son of the late David F. Coakley and the late Mary J. (Sullivan) (Coakley) Rossi and lived in Arlington before moving to Billerica 35 years ago.

Mr. Coakley was a custodian for Billerica Memorial High School from 1975 until his retirement in 1993 and then became a crossing guard for the Town of Billerica from 1993 until 2009.

He was a parishioner of St. Theresa Church in Billerica, a member of the Billerica Knights of Columbus, Fr. Harold M. Wren Council 3963 where he was the past Grand Knight and a 4th degree Knight with the St Pius Council. He was also a former member of the Billerica Elks.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Michael F. Coakley of Billerica, James E. Coakley and his wife Josephine of Billerica; one daughter, Maureen Howe and her husband Richard of Chelmsford; one sister Dorothea Barton of CO and five granddaughters, Deidre, Lindsey, Casey, Erica, and Elizabeth. He was also the brother of the late Leonard and Claire Coakley.

Funeral Tuesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 8 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Theresa Church at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Billerica Scholarship Foundation, Town Hall, 365 Boston Rd., Billerica 01821 Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery.
