Obituary for Walter J. Souza Jr.
Walter J. Souza Jr. – Age 83, beloved husband of Joan M. (Ponte) Souza died Tuesday at the Lowell General Hospital.

Born in Somerville on December 21, 1938, a son of the late Walter J. and Ruby (Ray) Souza, Walter was raised in Somerville and moved to Billerica in 1977.

Walter was employed as a Mechanical Inspector for the Baird Corporation in Bedford for over 30 years prior to his retirement. He was an active communicant of St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, a Past Grand Knight of the Billerica Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Billerica Elks Lodge. Walter enjoyed playing Cribbage weekly at the Billerica Senior Center. Family was the most important thing to Walter, and he treasured his wife above all others. He will be remembered for his robust personality, his competitive spirit, and the desire for his family to always have the best of everything.

Besides his wife, Walter is survived by his daughters, Denise Pattison and her husband Charles of Silt, CO, Pamela Burdette of Billerica and Kimberly Limoli and her husband Joe of Billerica; his sons, Walter Souza III and his wife Beth of Medford and Joseph Souza and his wife Donna of Franklin; his sisters, Ruby VonDwornick of Cambridge and Sandra Gauvreau of E. Bridgewater, predeceased by his sisters, Edith Bragel and Patricia Lowe, and his brothers, Lawrence Souza and Richard Souza. He is also survived by nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Walter’s Funeral Mass and burial will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Billerica Council on Aging, 25 Concord Road, Billerica, MA 01821, as the Senior Center was such an important part of Walter’s life in his final years.
