Obituary for Virginia H. Horan
BILLERICA- Virginia H. (Sipsey) Horan, age 88, died Sunday, September 1, 2013 at home in North Billerica. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Horan, Sr. She was born in Lawrence, MA on March 14, 1925 the daughter of the late J. Joseph and Helen (McCarthy) Sipsey and sister of the late William J. Sipsey. Mrs. Horan was a graduate of Edward Searles High School, Methuen and St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing, Lowell. She was a Registered Nurse for more than 25 years with St. John’s Hospital and later with Saints Medical Center in Lowell. She was the head nurse of the pediatric unit upon retirement, having served as a mentor and teacher to many nurses in training over the course of her long career. She was a member of St. John’s Hospital Alumni and former Ladies of St. John’s and had an enduring friendship with “The Golden Girls”. She was a faithful communicant of St. Andrew’s Church in North Billerica for sixty-five years where she was also a former prefect of St. Andrew’s Sodality. She is survived by her three sons and their wives, Thomas F. Horan, Jr. and his wife, Norma; Stephen M. and Debbie Horan all of Ohio; and Michael P. and Linda Horan of Billerica; two brothers, George Sipsey of Hudson, NH, and Joseph Sipsey of Methuen; as well as eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Thursday from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30a.m. at St. Andrew’s Church, Billerica. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Lowell Humane Society, 951 Broadway St., Lowell, MA 01854. Interment in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
