Thomas S. Hirsch, age 83, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, while on vacation with his family in Waitsfield, Vermont.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, on August 24, 1942, Tom was the son of the late Jane Weinstein and Leo P. Hirsch.
Tom grew up in California and graduated from the University of Southern California (USC) with a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering. He also served a two-and-a-half-year mission in France and Belgium for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Tom had met the love of his life, Mary Jo, while at USC. He started working at Hughes Aircraft but then began working in the field computers for Keystone Computer Associates in Pennsylvania for a few years before coming to Bedford, Massachusetts where he resided for the past 55 years and raised his beloved family. During his career in computing he received numerous awards and obtained over 20 patents in computer software. Tom enjoyed flying throughout his life with single and multi-engine aircraft, gliders, and helicopters with over 3000 hours of flight time. He loved sharing his passion for aviation through serving others doing Angel flights, flying aspiring aviators in the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Young Eagles Program, and mentoring in the Summer Science Program. In addition, he served on the Hanscom Field Advisory Commission (HFAC) and FAAST team (Federal Aviation Association Safety Team). He continued throughout his life to serve in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in various assignments.
Tom is survived by his children, Stephanie (Jeffrey) Morgan, Michelle (Donald) McIntosh, Heather (David) Bohl all of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Christopher (Maureen) Hirsch of Parker, Colorado. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 70 Concord Road, Billerica. A Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Thursday, July 30, 2026 with a visitation at 11:00 a.m.; with a graveside service at 12:00 p.m..
