Thomas F. O’Toole Sr., age 89, beloved husband of Shirley A. (Maciel) O’Toole died Saturday, July 4, 2026 at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford with his family by his side after a period of declining health.
He was born in Waltham, December 10, 1936 a son of the late John J. and Minna C. (Loir) O’Toole and lived in Belmont, Watertown, and Somerville before purchasing a home in Billerica in 1967.
Tom served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. Following his active service, he continued his commitment in the United States Army Reserve until receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1963. After which he went on to a career as a Precision Machinist for Alpha Industries, Microwave Associates and MA/Com. After retiring from MA/Com, he worked for Boston Properties as a Property Manager.
He was a life member of the Billerica Rod and Gun Club, a member of the Christian Service Brigade, taught Sunday school at the North Billerica Baptist Church and also drove a special needs van and served as a school bus monitor as well.
Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Thomas F. O’Toole Jr. of N. Billerica; two daughters, Brenda Drolet and her husband Ray of Billerica and Arlene Christianson and her husband John of Chelmsford; two sisters, Helen O’Toole of CA and Alice White of Southborough; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Joshua, Valerie, Amy and Kelsie as well as his four great-grandchildren, Brady, Dominic, Austin and Madison. He was the father of the late Michael O’Toole and brother of the late John, Robert and William O’Toole.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 11 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. followed by a Prayer Service at 12:15 p.m. Interment in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Department of Veterans Affairs.
