Obituary for Stewart Wood
Stewart Wood – Age 88, beloved husband of Dorothy H. (Helmsteadt) Wood died Thursday at the Sawtelle Hospice House in Reading.
Mr. Wood was born in Cambridge, June 6, 1929, a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Bean) Wood. He was raised in Belmont and Medfield before entering the military, lived in Virginia before moving to Billerica in 1971.
Mr. Wood proudly served in the U.S. Marines for 21 years having served both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He later was employed as a salesman for Reichhold Chemicals having retired at age 62. He was an active member of St. Theresa Church in Billerica having been the President of St. Vincent de Paul Society at the Church for 13 years. He was a member of the Billerica Lions Club, a former Town Meeting Member and served on the Billerica Housing Authority for ten years.
Besides his wife, Mr. Wood is survived by his sons, Charles Wood and his wife Laura of Tyngsborough, Gary Wood and his wife Sharon of Tewksbury, James Wood and his wife Linda of SC and Paul Wood and his wife Christine of Chelmsford; his daughter, Marylou Wood of Billerica and his sister, Margot Morgan of CT. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
WOOD – Of Billerica, May 24, Stewart Wood, Funeral Tuesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 8 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church at 9 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 3-6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul, One Grace Ave., Billerica, MA 01821. Mr. Wood will be buried with military honors at Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
