
Samuel Frederick Gualtieri, 85, of Chelmsford and formerly Falmouth and Billerica, died in peace surrounded by family. Samuel was the son of the late Nicholas and Ida (Croce) Gualtieri and grew up in Malden. He was the oldest of five children and is survived by his loving siblings Domenic Gualtieri (Marge), Rose Burke (Robert), Nancy Burke (Nicholas) and Susan Matsuyama (Nagao). He attended Malden High School where he was a three-sport athlete and president of his class, and later went on to play football at Middlebury College in Vermont (1955-1959). Upon graduation he accepted a position at Brown Junior High, where he taught with his beloved Rosemary (Mayne), whom he was married to for 50 years. He moved on to Burlington High School as a math teacher and remained there until his retirement as an Assistant Principal. He was a Korean War era veteran and retired as a Lt. Colonel from the Army National Guard.
He was an avid Boston sports fan, was always the teacher, but his real enjoyment came from spending time and traveling with his five children and ten grandchildren: Cara A Gaudet, her husband Dean and their son Brady of Salem, NH; Gina M Nagvajara, her husband Prawat and their sons Nathan and Ty of Narberth, PA; Joseph J Gualtieri and his sons Justin, Grant, Leo and Gavin of Douglas, MA; Maria M Guillemette and her husband William of Chelmsford; and Thomas NM Gualtieri, his wife Amy and their children Emma, Sam and Lily of Reading. He is also survived by many extended nieces, nephews and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, March 9 at St. Irene Church, 187 East St., Carlisle at 10 a.m. Samuel’s burial will take place with military honors at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Ave., Bourne at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the American Lung Association, www.lung.org. Please omit flowers.
