Obituary for Rudolph Gilio Mercuri 'Rudy'
Rudolph Gilio Mercuri “Rudy” Age 84, WW II Veteran BILLERICA – Loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Rudolph Gilio Mercuri passed away peacefully after a lengthy battle with cancer, at his home surrounded by his loving family and his cherished cat “Cookie”. He was the beloved husband of the late Mary G. “Gerry” Mercuri who died Nov. 18, 2012. Rudy was born in Boston, September 28, 1928 a son of the late George and Carmela (Selvaggio) Mercuri. Mr. Mercuri was in the Merchant Marines before going into the US Army at age 17 serving from 1946 – 1948 as a military policeman during WW II attaining the rank of Corporal. Rudy was a furniture deliveryman for many years and had his own business “Rudy’s Express” in the 1970’s. He also worked at Gibbs gas station in Wilmington followed by MIT Lincoln Labs in Lexington where he was a Security Guard until his retirement. Rudy enjoyed spending time with the love of his life and his best friend “Gerry” for over 50 years who just passed away 7 weeks ago and loved getting together and spending time with his children and grandchildren, “they loved their Papa Rudy” for many years he enjoyed playing cards, gardening, bowling and vacationing with his family and friends. Mr. Mercuri is survived by his children, Gerald T. “Jerry” O’Brien and his fiancé Jeannie Collins of Tewksbury, Charlene O’Brien of Billerica, Michelle Mercuri and Lucille Beland both of Methuen and Joanna Matterazzo of Pelham, NH; seven grandchildren, Geoffrey and Tiffany O’Brien of WV, Misty and William Anaya, Julianna and Corey Perez and Emily Rose Beland; one great-grandson Xzavior Ashmore of WV; one loving sister, Rose Marie Santosuosso of FL and one brother Dante C. Mercuri of FL. Also survived by many dear friends, nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph, Silvio A. and George M. Mercuri. Rudy’s family would like to thank Dr. Richard De Amicis, Miguel and the staff of Medical Healthcare Specialists in Chelmsford as well as the nurses of Allcare Hospice for their care but special thanks to Lucille Beland for the care, compassion and comfort she gave to him at the end of his life. MERCURI – Of Billerica, Jan. 10, Rudolph Gilio Mercuri “Rudy”. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday in the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 1 p.m. Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. prior to the service.
