Robert W. Keough – age 83, beloved husband of 54 years of Marion C. (Colandreo) Keough died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 30 at their home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Cambridge, May 31, 1942 as the son of the late John and Dora (Rogers) Keough and was raised and lived in Somerville before moving to Billerica 48 years ago. Robert proudly served in the Army National Guard.
Bob was employed as a history teacher for the City of Somerville, having worked there for 38 years prior to his retirement. One of his proudest teaching moments was creating a mock trial as the culmination of his civics class. Family often run into former students who fondly remember Mr. Keough. He served on the Billerica School Committee for 18 years and was a member of the Somerville City Club, the Billerica Lodge of Elks and the Billerica Knights of Columbus.
He will be remembered for his love of cooking, watching football, and following politics. Above all, he loved his family and was proud of their accomplishments large and small. “It’s a memory,” was one of his favorite sayings, especially when things weren’t going as planned. It’s that little bit of optimism and looking on the bright side that his family will carry with them, and plenty of memories.
Besides his wife, Bob is survived by his children, Kristen Halloran and her husband Jeffrey of Lowell, John Keough and his wife Elaine of Billerica, Matthew Keough and his wife Megan of Chelmsford, and Mary Cormier and her husband Thomas of Billerica; his brother, Thomas Keough of Norwell; his sister, Patricia Marston of AL, and his 12 grandchildren: Kara Cormier, Connell Keough, Jason Halloran, Thomas Cormier III, Brendan Keough, Maeve Keough, Ava Halloran, Madelyn Cormier, Patrick Keough, Fiona Keough, Kerrin Keough, and Mary Claire Halloran. Bob was affectionately known as Uncle Dee Dee to his many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Kara Keough and brother of the late Mary Ciccariello.
A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Oct. 4 at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. His burial will take place at the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Billerica Scholarship Foundation, Treasurer’s Office, 365 Boston Rd., Billerica, MA 01821.
