Robert “Red” C. Hartshorn Jr. – age 89, beloved husband of Margaret A. (McKenna) Hartshorn died peacefully Saturday, March 7 at their home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Somerville, December 28, 1936, a son of the late Robert C. and Marilla (Bullerwell) Hartshorn and lived in Billerica his entire life. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
For many years Bob was employed as a Carpenter for the Cresta Construction Company in Lowell and later went on the work for the Middlesex Community College and the Billerica School Department.
Bob was a Charter Member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks where he was an active Horseshoe Player and was a member of the MA Horseshoe Pitchers Association. Since he was a child, he was an active Bowler at Collins Bowladrome in Billerica.
Besides his wife, Bob is survived by his daughters, Judy Mooney of Lowell and Margaret Manchester and her husband Dave of Billerica; his sons, Robert Hartshorn III and his wife April of Billerica, John Hartshorn and his wife Christel of Nashua, NH and Alan Hartshorn and his wife Jackie of Weymouth; his sister, Judy Fay of GA and is also survived by his 13 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews that loved and admired him. He was the brother of the late Alan Hartshorn.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life will be held Thursday, March 12 at the Billerica Lodge of Elks, 14 Webb Brook Rd., Billerica from 3-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Billerica Community Pantry, P.O. Box 285, Billerica, MA 01821. Arrangements under the care of the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, Billerica.
