Robert R. Griffin, age 82 of Billerica, Massachusetts, beloved husband of the late Doris E. (Wentzell) Griffin passed away peacefully Monday, July 14.
He was born on July 16, 1942, son of the late Walter and Rita (Perkins) Griffin. He grew up in Swampscott and Lynn and moved to Billerica in 1970.
Bob graduated from Saint John’s Prep and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Boston College. Bob was employed as a Corporate Financial Officer for John Hancock for over 35 years prior to his retirement. He served as president of the John Hancock FCA association where he formed wonderful friendships and was able to plan many exciting travel adventures for the organization. Bob was an active member of St. Mary’s Church and taught CCD for many years.
Bob’s first love was his family. He loved to travel and make new memories. He always planned wonderful outings to enjoy with his extended family. He loved spending time with his girls, whether it was relaxing at home or taking them on spontaneous adventures. He could frequently be found in the travel section of a bookstore, planning their next getaway. He and Doris traveled the world, but one of their favorite places to visit was their cottage on the lake in Nova Scotia. His wonderful sense of humor and gift for storytelling will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughters, Lisa Small and her husband Jeff of North Andover, MA; Tara Coughlin and her husband Tom of Auburn, NH; and his cherished granddaughter Katia Small. He is also survived by his sister Patricia Carmody of Lynn, MA; his brother, John Griffin and his wife Carol of Naples, FL; his sister, Pamela Georgenes and her husband Peter of Plymouth, MA; and his niece and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Paul Carmody.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, July 20th at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica, MA from 1-4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, July 21st at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford.
