Robert O. Shannon Jr., age 77, beloved husband of the late Jayne A. Shannon, died peacefully on Saturday, June 29th while vacationing in Maine with family.
He was born in Woburn, on January 7, 1947, the son of the late Robert O. Shannon Sr. and the late Anne (Walker) Shannon, and was raised in Melrose, moving to Billerica in 1971.
Bob graduated from Bentley University in 1970 with a degree in Accounting and worked for ComGas and NSTAR until his retirement in 2000.
Bob and Jayne loved to travel and always seemed to be on the verge of embarking on another grand adventure. In between their travels, he tended to his pool and extensive vegetable garden, taking great pleasure in both. He also enjoyed playing golf, horseshoes, and going out to dinner with his friends.
Bob was “Poppy” to his four grandchildren, and they showered each other with mutual adoration. He never missed watching one of their hockey games, and always made sure that they all knew how proud he was of them. He truly believed that “family is everything” and he spent every minute he could with his children and grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his children, Robert O. Shannon III and his wife Anne of Andover, Tara Mickalide and her husband Scott of North Andover, Jonathan Shannon and his wife Lucia of Swampscott; his sisters, Gail Finos (Bill) of Lynnfield, Heather Shannon (Stewart) of Saco, ME; his four grandchildren, Jack and Lily Shannon of Andover, Fisher and Quinn Shannon of Swampscott; as well as his nieces and many wonderful friends. Bob lost his beloved wife, Jayne, on January 19th of this year, after 55 years of marriage.
A celebration of life will be held on July 11th from 1-3pm at 6 Lois Lane in Billerica.
