Muzzy was born on December 16, 1946, and passed away on July 6, 2024, after a yearlong battle with lung cancer.
He lived in Billerica all his life, the son of Muriel Eunice (Demone) and Earl R. Musgrave.
He attended Billerica schools until grade 11 and then graduated from Cornwall Academy in Great Barrington, Massachusetts in 1964.
He then received a 2-year certificate from Andover Institute of Business in Andover, Massachusetts.
He is an Honorably discharged Veteran of the United States Marine Corp and a member of the American Legion Post 259 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
In his early years he grew up working in the family dairy business, Musgrave’s Tower Farm in Billerica Center. He then bought a franchise retail milk route from H. P. Hood Inc. in Charlestown, MA., there he was co-founder and an original member of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Association of Independent Retail Distributors. An association formed to get group rates for franchise owners on things like insurance, truck repairs and parts, etc.
He then went to work for the Massachusetts Department of Corrections where he retired after 23 years of service as a Sergeant. During this time, he also worked for the Michael Fermoyle painting company and continued to paint on his own after his retirement from the state.
Besides his wife Susan, Muzzy leaves three daughters, Wendy Kelly and her husband Brian, Tammy Musgrave and Stacey Musgrave and her partner John Razzino all of Billerica. He also leaves his grandchildren, Sean, Ryan and Meagan Kelly, Shane Matheson, and Eryn Ward.
He also leaves his brother John of Warsaw, Indiana and many nieces and nephews, as well as his first wife Gail.
A graveside service with military honors will be held Friday, July 12 at the North Cemetery, 42 Salem Rd., N. Billerica at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, www.jimmyfund.org
