Robert J. “Bob” Vitale, age 84, beloved husband of Kathleen E. (Sweeney) Vitale died Thursday October 12, at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center.
He was born in Chelsea, January 27, 1939 a son of the late Frank J. and Madeline (Riley) Vitale and lived in Melrose and Charlestown before moving to Billerica in 1974.
Bob served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and after his honorable discharge went on to have a career of over 40 years with the USPS as a Mail Handler, mostly at the South Boston Postal Annex.
Besides his wife his is survived by two sons, Michael Vitale and his wife Lisa O’Connor of Billerica and Robert Vitale Jr. of Tampa, FL; one brother Frank Vitale Jr. of FL as well as three sisters, Barbara Wedge and her husband John of Dracut, Theresa Gallant and her husband Jim of Dracut and Linda Vitale of Rochester, NH
A Memorial Gathering will be held at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 7 Concord Rd., Billerica on Saturday November 4, from 2 – 5 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. All other services will be held privately and at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Assn at www.heart.org
