Obituary for Robert F. Loranger Sr.
Robert F. Loranger Sr. – Age 80, beloved husband of Marianne E. (Pierce) Loranger died unexpectedly Sunday at the Lakes Region Hospital in Laconia. He was born in Billerica, October 5, 1931, son of the late Albert J. and Rose M. (Landry) Loranger and lived in Billerica for most of his life before retiring to their summer home in Sanbornton, NH on Lake Winnisquam in 2002. He was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Church in N. Billerica and Sacred Heart Church in Laconia. Mr. Loranger graduated from the Howe High School in Billerica as the Captain of the Baseball team in 1949. He had a very extensive baseball career as an all-star catcher having played on many semi-pro teams and had a professional contract with the Philadelphia A’s. He was inducted into the Billerica Athletic Hall of Fame in 1994. He served as a Corporal in the Army during the Korean War where he also played baseball. Mr. Loranger later coached baseball for many leagues including Billerica Little League and the Billerica Memorial High School. He was the former Assistant Athletic Director for Middlesex Community College and also the Intercollegiate Baseball Coach. He also was a member of the Greater Lowell Umpires Association and started the Billerica Youth Bowling League. Mr. Loranger was the former owner of Bob’s Trade Mart in N. Billerica from 1964 to 1973. He became a teacher for the Billerica School Department in 1973 and worked at the Marshall Middle School and then the High School having retired in 1998. He loved the lakes region and enjoyed snowmobiling with his wife and family in Pittsburg, NH. Besides his wife, Mr. Loranger is survived by his sons, Robert F. Loranger Jr. and his wife Kathleen and Philip Loranger and his wife Annemarie of Billerica and William Loranger and his wife Victoria of Nashua, NH; his daughter Margaret Sweeney and her husband Douglas of Burlington; his sisters, Margaret Metivier and Rita Surprenant of Billerica, his brother, Richard Loranger of Windham, NH and is also survived by 13 grandchildren. Mr. Loranger was the brother of the late, David and Morris Grady, Albert and Edward Loranger, Edith Ryan, Florence Doherty, Eleanor Grady and Mildred Mulligan. LORANGER – Of Sanbornton, NH, formerly of N. Billerica, unexpectedly, Jan. 1, Robert F. Loranger Sr. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 3-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at St. Andrew’s Church, Talbot Ave., N. Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Billerica Scholarship Foundation, c/o Treasurer’s Office, 365 Boston Rd., Billerica, MA 01821. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, E. Chelmsford.
