
Obituary for Robert P. Melanson
Robert Paul Melanson, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 1, 2016, after a brief illness. Bob loved his family deeply and expressed these feelings consistently throughout his life in both words and deeds. He felt blessed not to be taken suddenly and to have been given these precious last months to be with those he loved.
Bob was born in Waltham, Mass., August 30, 1939, the son of the late Arthur H. and Jeannette (Drisdelle) Melanson. A resident of Billerica since 1961, he served many years as a Town Meeting member. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Billerica, serving twelve years as a CCD teacher and thirteen years as an offertory trustee. A graduate of Northeastern University, Bob worked for Digital Equipment Corporation for 32 years. In retirement, he and Pat traveled extensively throughout the country in their fifth-wheel RV and enjoyed time with family and friends.
Bob leaves his loving wife of 55 years, Patricia A. (Hart) Melanson, his devoted children and their spouses, Michael B. Melanson and Russell V. Ozana of Dracut, Michele and John MacDonald of Methuen, Maureen and Joseph Arena of Hudson, NH, and Matthew and Yamini (Deshmukh) Melanson of Burlington, his adoring grandchildren, Rebecca, Brianna and Joey Arena, Ashley Cota, Audrey and Amy MacDonald, and Nathan and Kristina Melanson, and his precious great grandson, Brayden Dineen. He was the brother of Ronald (Nichkol) Melanson of Big Folk, MT, John Melanson (Richard Deshefy) of Henderson, NC, Richard (Elizabeth) Melanson of Jamestown, RI, Julie Bonacci (Charles Bonica) of Waltham, and the late Roger Melanson, and the brother-in-law of Maria Schiavi of Sherborn, John (Mary) Hart of Hanover, and the late James and Maureen Duggan of Marlboro. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Billerica at 9:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 5-8 p.m. Donations may be made in Bob’s name to the Sawtelle Family Hospice House, c/o Coummunity Relations Department VNA of Middlesex-East, 607 North Avenue, Ste. 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
