Obituary for Robert J. Cahill Jr.
Robert J. Cahill Jr., Age 90, husband of the late Mary F. (Shappe) Cahill died Sunday at the Lowell General Hospital-Saints Campus surrounded by his family.
He was born in Boston, December 1, 1931, the son of the late Robert and Catherine (McKinnon) Cahill and was raised in Charlestown and moved to Billerica in 1963. Robert proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
He was employed by the Billerica Fire Department from 1966-1996 and retired at the age of 65 as a Lieutenant serving Engine 3 in Pinehurst.
Robert is survived by his children, Robert Cahill III and his wife Cheryl of Hillsborough, NH, Mary Green and her husband Jeff of Hillsborough, NH, Linda Gullage and her husband Greg of Billerica, William Cahill and his wife Julie of Pepperell and Elizabeth Lynch and her husband Michael of Arlington; his sister, Kathleen Cahill and her wife Karen Corbin of IA and his sister-in-law, Evelyn Cahill of Foxboro and is also survived by his eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was the father of the late James Cahill and brother of the late Paul Cahill.
Visiting hours will be held Thursday at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church at 10 a.m. Masks will be required at both locations. Memorial contributions may be made to the Billerica Firefighters Charitable Association, c/o Local 1495, 8 Good St., Billerica, MA 01821. Burial with military honors will be held at the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
