Obituary for Robert G. Ings

Robert “Bob” Ings, 62, passed away peacefully Thursday at his home surrounded by his family.

Bob had a larger-than-life personality and a love of life that was contagious. He had the ability to fill room with his deep voice, boisterous laugh, and colorful language. He adored his family, which he often referred to as “his little world,” and spoke often with pride about “all his girls” – including his granddaughters who brought him tremendous happiness.

A lifelong Billerica resident, Bob graduated from Billerica High School in 1972 and worked at BTU Engineering as a Class A sheet metal mechanic for many years prior to starting his own business.

Bob was a self-made, successful man building a contracting company from the ground up. With an uncanny ability to fix most anything, he loved his work – remodeling, building, and creating. Bob was a kind and generous man, with a heart as big as his broad shoulders. He was the first to donate to a good cause, often remarking “it’s only money, I’ll make more tomorrow.” He had a genuine belief that people deserved a chance and offered a helping hand to nearly everyone he met.

Bob is survived by his loving and fiercely loyal wife of 42 years, Kathy of Billerica; his daughter Wendy and her wife Hilary of Dover, NH; his daughter Tracy and her fiancé Jonathan Dillon of Beverly, MA; his mother-in-law – his “Nan” – Edie Mugford of Wilmington; his brother-in-law Lee Mugford of Wilmington; and his dear, lifelong friends Michael and MaryEllen Kippenberger of Topsfield. He is also survived by his beloved granddaughters Reese and Peyton. He is predeceased by his parents Edwin and Lois Ings and his brother Kenneth Ings. He is also survived by his sister Karen Ernst and other family.

Ings, Visiting hours will be held Saturday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1-4 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 3:50 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
