Obituary for Rita R. Sabella
Beloved wife of the late John Sabella, loving mother of Donald Sabella and his wife Cindy, Steven Sabella and Donna Sabella of Billerica, and Diane Hetrick and her husband Paul of Clinton. Sister of Salvator Viola, sister-in-law of Louise Viola of Tewksbury. Devoted grandmother of Samantha Vosburg and her husband Nick, Sarah Hetrick and Maggie Sabella and many nieces and nephews. She was also awaiting the birth of her first great-grand-daughter in February. Rita was born in Cambridge MA and worked as a secretary. She was known for her “mean short-hand”. She later moved to Somerville and then Medford, where she lived with her husband John, her brother and sister-in-law Sal and Louise and all the cousins and raised her family, before moving to Billerica in 1972. Rita enjoyed reading, trips to Martha's Vineyard, and crafts, knitting and crocheting. She was, as recently as this fall, knitting baby hats and afghans to donate to hospitals for newborns. She also enjoyed attending Blair House adult Day Health Center in Tewksbury where she did her crafts and taught her knitting skills to others. Rita enjoyed summers on Martha's Vineyard with her father Gaspar and her step-mother Rose, and later passed that love of the Vineyard down to her children and grandchildren. Over the past 14 years, she spent the month of August in Oak Bluffs with her son Donald and many family members and friends. She could be packed and ready to go in a matter of minutes! When on the Vineyard, she enjoyed dinners out, car rides to Aquinna, trips to the beach, barbecues with family and friends and simply enjoying reading and relaxing on the deck. Rita’s greatest joy was found spending time with her children and especially her three grand-daughters, teaching them old family recipes, story-telling and going to their school events, Sam and Sarah's high school graduations and Maggie's dance recitals. Rita will be remembered for her easy- going demeanor, her big heart and her ability to always leave the door open for family and friends to come in, visit and share a meal or a story at any time. Funeral Tuesday from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 8 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Theresa Church, Billerica at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited.
