Obituary for Richard F. Silva


Richard F. Silva – Age 92, husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Taverna) Silva died Sunday, February 9 at the Florida Trinity Hospital in New Port Richey, Florida.


He was born in Stoneham, November 15, 1932, a son of the late Manuel F. and Madge (Bishop) Silva and was raised in Medford and moved to Billerica with his family in 1964. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion and the DAV.


He was the former owner of Dick Silva’s Gulf (Citgo) in Brighton until he retired in 1998. He then moved to Meredith, NH, splitting his retirement years between Meredith, NH and New Port Richey, FL. His greatest joy was his family, and he enjoyed boating, fishing and hunting with his longtime friends.


Dick was a devout Christian attending daily Masses at St. Charles Church in Meredith, NH and at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in New Port Richey, FL.


Dick is survived by his three children, Cheryl McLaughlin and her husband Richard of Billerica, Laureen Finnell and her partner Brian Cleary of New Port Richey, FL, and Richard Silva of Billerica. His five grandchildren, Kelly McKinnon and her husband Jay, Colleen Finnell, Jim Finnell, Scott McLaughlin, Kimberly Belair and her husband Chris. His three great grandchildren, Kaelyn, Olivia and Emelia McKinnon. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Barbara Lorden, Jack Silva, Phyllis Harkins and Robert Ward.


Visiting hours will be held Friday, February 14 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Dick’s burial with Military Honors will take place at the Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Charles Borromeo Church, P.O. Box 237, Meredith, NH 03253.
