Richard A. Ackroyd – age 80, beloved husband of Donna M. (Dillon) Ackroyd died peacefully Wednesday, July 8 at the Lahey Hospital in Burlington.
He was born in Boston, April 16, 1946 a son of the late George and Grace (Goodwin) Ackroyd and was raised in Melrose and late moved to Billerica in 1980.
Richard was employed as a Mechanic for Verizon for 40 years and retired in 2010. He was a member of the IBEW Local 2222.
He was truly a jack of all trades. A skilled musician, an athlete, a history buff, a woodworker, a science enthusiast, a baker, an avid fisherman, and above all else, a Grampy.
Besides his wife, Richard is survived by his daughters, Christine Morris and her husband Ed of Billerica and Sharon Conway and her partner Paul Collina of Freedom, NH; his sons, Richard Ackroyd and his wife Meagan of Shirley and Robert Ackroyd and his wife Ali of Nashua, NH; his brother, Donald Ackroyd of FL; his sisters, Marjorie Howser and Martha Clum of OK and is also survived by his nine grandchildren Dominique, Brodie, Timmy, Serena, Yvette, Lexie, Tyler, Cassidy, and Morgan, and his great grandson, Wesley Chatel. He was the grandfather of the late Eddie Conway and Brianna and Zachary Ackroyd and brother of the late David Ackroyd.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1-4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. His burial will take place at the Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Billerica,
