Obituary for Richard M. Egan
Richard M. Egan, Age 74, beloved husband of Jean M. (Petta) Egan died unexpectedly Saturday at their home.
He was born in Boston, October 26, 1947, a son of the late Richard and Dorothy (Owen) Egan and was raised in Dorchester and lived in Malden before moving to Billerica 24 years ago.
Richie proudly served as a Staff Sgt. in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War having received a Bronze Star. He was a member of the VFW Solomon Post.
For many years Richie worked in the Maintenance Department for MassPort. Richie “Poppy” loved spending his weekends with his family, especially his three grandchildren. Richie had a love for traveling the United State with his wife and their dear friends. He was also a regular at Liberty Bell and Stoneham Bank where we know they will miss him very much.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Melissa O’Connor and her husband Kevin of Hudson, NH and Ashley Chagnon and her husband Matthew of Leominster; his brothers, George Egan of Hanover Joseph and John Egan of Dorchester; his sister, Mary Grow of Avon, his late brother Michael, and his proudest accomplishments his three grandchildren, Bryanna, Hunter and Mateo.
Richard’s funeral will be Thursday departing from the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 9 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Andrew Church, Talbot Ave., Billerica at 10 a.m. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from
4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers a memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s name to the New England Center and Home for Veterans, www.nechv.org
