Raymond J. Mahoney, age 80, beloved husband of Catherine A. (Halpin) Mahoney died unexpectedly Saturday at their home.
He was born in Lowell, April 29, 1944 a son of the late Francis and Alice (O’Donnell) Mahoney and lived in Dracut before moving to Billerica in 1973.
Ray served in the US Army Reserve and was employed as a technician for Ricoh Business Machines and was known to be able to fix any type of machine.
He was the past Exalted Ruler of the Billerica Lodge of Elks # 2071 and could always be counted on for a ride whether to the airport, an appointment or just to the store.
Ray is survived by one daughter, Cristin LaVita and her husband Rob of Wakefield; one son David Mahoney and his wife Robyn of Kingston, NH; two brothers, Francis “Fran” Mahoney of Dracut and Gerald Mahoney of Lowell as well as his nine beloved grandchildren Genevieve Carroll, Ryan Carroll, Jason Mahoney, Donovan Carroll, Jack LaVita, Anthony LaVita, Colin Mahoney, Nathan Mahoney, Adeline Mahoney and many nieces and nephews who all loved him more. He was also the brother of the late Sr. Margaret “Peggy” Mahoney, John “Jack’ Mahoney and William Mahoney.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 17, at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4 – 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, December 18, at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Andrew Church, 45 Talbot Ave., Billerica at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society at www.nationalmssociety.org
