Philip “Buddy” J. Saunders Jr. – age 74, beloved husband of Diana C. (Cangiamila) Saunders died peacefully Saturday, June 8, at their home.
Buddy was born in Medford, September 24, 1949, son of the late Philip J. and Shirley (Fletcher) Saunders and was raised in W. Somerville and moved to Billerica in 1963. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS John F. Kennedy.
Buddy was employed as a Truck Driver for Local #25 and prior to his retirement worked for New Penn Motor Express. He was a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Billerica.
Besides his wife, Buddy is survived by his daughters, Nicole, Laura and Jessica Saunders all of Billerica; his sister, Elizabeth Cerra and her husband Anthony Cerra of Dracut; Penne Shea and her late husband Paul Shea of Chelmsford. He was the brother of the late Russell Saunders and surviving wife Stephanie Saunders. He leaves behind his dear nieces, nephews and cousins. Buddy will also be missed by his closest friends, Vincent Cangiamila, Everett “Charlie” Jones and his four-legged friends “Coco and Moose.”
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, June 11 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. His funeral service will be held Wednesday at the First Congregational Church, 18 Andover Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will take place at the Westlawn Cemetery in Littleton.
