Peter K. Kapala, age 74, beloved husband of Gail E. (Kellegrew) Kapala died Friday at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington after a brief illness.
He was born in Lowell, May 24, 1951 a son of the late Karol P. and Alice B. (Sakalinski) Kapala and lived in Lowell before moving to Billerica over 47 years ago.
Peter earned his bachelor’s degree in education and after a brief stint teaching, went on to a long career with Microwave Radio Corporation of Billerica managing their shipping department. He also spent time bartending at the family business, the former Cappy’s Copper Kettle in Lowell, but most important to him was spending time with his family and grandchildren who will undoubtedly carry on his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
Besides his wife he is survived by one son, Matthew Kapala and his wife Catarina of Billerica; one daughter, Laura Salerno and her husband Daniel of Billerica; one brother, Richard Kapala and his wife Laurel of Lowell; one sister, Carol Ann Campbell and her husband Joseph of New Port Richie, FL; his sister-in-law Lynne Keefe and her husband David of Hudson, NH as well as his four beloved grandchildren, Charlotte, Nathan, Julian and Sophia.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, July 31, at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 11:30 – 12:30 p.m. with a Memorial Service to be held in the funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Interment in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the 100 Club of Massachusetts to help support the families of fallen Police Officers and Firefighters at www.100clubmass.org
