Obituary for Olive "OT" Thompson
Olive “OT” Thompson of Chelmsford, formerly of Billerica, North Fort Myers, FL, and Reading, MA passed away with family by her side on December 9, 2021. Born in Cambridge, MA on March 14, 1932, she was the daughter of Oscar C. Smith, Sr. and Margaret (Power) Smith. Growing up, she helped her family care for her grandparents as they lived together until they moved to Reading, MA when she was in the fifth grade. Olive attended Reading schools. She loved to sew, knit, crotchet, embroider and made many handmade items for her family and friends. Olive enjoyed working at the Fabric Center in Reading Square, worked as a volunteer at many State and Federal Elections, was a member of Eastern Star, and was an avid fan of Jeopardy, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.
Olive was an active member of the Old South United Methodist Church of Reading for over 40 years. She served on many committees organizing the Fabric Table for Church Fairs, helping with Church dinners and participating in many fellowship activities with her Church family.
Olive met her lifetime love “Les” at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Medford, MA and they were married in 1951. They resided in Greenwood, MA and then moved to Reading in 1958 where they raised their three children.
Olive was predeceased by her husband, Lester E. Thompson, Sr, who passed away in 2002. She leaves behind her children L. Earl Thompson, Jr. (Sheryl) of Greenville, NH; Margaret (Peggy) E. Sims of Lunenburg, MA and Wayne E. Thompson, Sr. (Diane) of Billerica, MA. She also leaves 7 grandchildren: Bill and Tracey, Shaun and Nicole, Tina, Jennifer and Jeremy, Christopher and Leeann, Manz and Esther, and Ed and Bridget. Olive was blessed with 8 great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Samantha, Lexi, Sarah, Keira, Shane, Gabrielle, and Alexandra.
Olive leaves a brother-in-law, Larry Thompson (Anne) of Hampstead, NH and many nieces and nephews.
Olive was predeceased by a brother and sister-in-law Oscar and Helen Smith of Harrison, ME, sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Harold Reid of Bridgton, ME and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Blanche and Nathan Babcock of Lowell, MA. She was loved by many family and friends and will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church, 18 Andover Rd., Billerica. The service will on Zoom, the link is below.
