Obituary for Norman L. Metivier
Norman L. Metivier (Papa Norm) died at Winchester Hospital on Tuesday, September 25, 2012, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was 81 years old. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by the family that he loved and nurtured. Born in Berlin, NH, the son of the late Nazaire and Aline (Laliberte) Metivier, he was a Scholarship recipient of the Fisher Body Craftsman Guild, and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He spent his career as an industrial engineer for various companies including Converse Rubber Company and Rochester Shoe Tree. Upon retirement, he started Affordable Airport Ride. Norm was an automobile, aircraft, bicycle, moped, radio, hot air balloon and scooter enthusiast as well as a repairman extraordinaire. Beloved husband of the late Rolande S. (Boulet) Metivier, Norman is survived by four children. His three daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Edward C. Payne III, Lisa and Gregory Ortolani, Lynne and Robert Hawkes Sr.; his son Jon and wife Tracy Metivier; nine grandchildren, Renee Payne O’Brien and her husband Daniel, Robert Hawkes Jr. and his wife Kelly, Keith Hawkes, Nicholas Ortolani, Jon Michael Hawkes, Alexander Ortolani, Marc, Nicole, and Jacob Metivier; seven great-grandchildren, Aidan, Owen and Evan O’Brien and Charles, Simon, Nathaniel and Thomas Hawkes. The brother of Lionel Metivier, he was predeceased by his younger brother Clark. In addition, Norm leaves many nieces and nephews. METIVIER – Of Billerica, Sept. 25, Norman L. Metivier, Please join Norm’s family and friends for hors d’oeuvres and a “Celebration of Norman’s Life” at the Courtyard by Marriott, 270 Concord Rd., Billerica on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 3-7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held Monday, October 1, at St. Theresa Church, 466 Concord Rd., Billerica 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to Boston Children's Hospital, in memory of Norman Metivier.
