Neil E. Foster Jr., A longtime resident of Billerica passed away Tuesday peacefully at The Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln after a short illness at the age of eighty-seven.
Born in Boston on November 21, 1935. Son of the late Neil E. and Sarah (Mahood) Foster of Burlington. Following his graduation from Burlington High, Neil joined the Navy and served four years on the U.S.S. Valley Forge during the Korean War.
He met the love of his life, Flo, in Woburn during one of his weekend Naval leaves and they were married on September 30, 1956.
After his time in the service, he worked for over 40 years in the manufacturing field for Adams Russell (M/A Com) as a foreman in the finishing department.
Upon his retirement, Neil & Flo enjoyed many summers camping at Lake Forest Campground in NH and winters in Florida. Neil loved to travel and warm destinations were his favorite. He enjoyed sunfish sailing, golfing, and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He & Flo made many friends wherever they went and could often be found on Saturday nights playing penny card games with friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Florence (Pierce) Foster, his son Neil E. Foster III and his wife Stacey of Billerica, his son Stephen Foster and his wife Rhonda of Ashby, and his daughter Cheryl Morin and her husband Paul of Westford. He is predeceased by his son David Foster and his sister Joanne Castonguay.
His grandchildren were his pride and joy. Neil was the cherished grandfather of Charles & Joanne Foster, Kyle Smith, Stephen Foster Jr., David, Diane, and Danielle Lacoy, and Olivia & Emily Morin. He also had 8 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Neil will be missed tremendously by all of his family and friends.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his calling hours on Sunday, August 6, from 1PM to 4pm at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd. Billerica. His funeral procession will be leaving from funeral home on Monday, August 7, for his graveside service at Fox Hill Cemetery for 12 noon, please arrive at the funeral home at 11 AM.
