Michael Paul Halter, 76, of Dracut, Massachusetts, passed away on July 20, 2026, surrounded by his children. Born on August 13, 1949, in Milwaukee, WI to Paul and Betty Halter, Michael came of age in the sixties and carried that era’s spirit with him throughout his life.
After serving in the Air Force, he embraced his love of travel, both abroad in Spain and all across the United States. These experiences shaped his worldly view and deepened his love of travel. Michael was an early adopter of technology and began building computers in the late 1970s. His eagerness to understand how things worked and what might be possible influenced his career in IT and lifelong interest in all things computer related. His adventures never compared to his time as a stay at home dad, though, which he considered the best job he ever had. Those who knew him will always remember the amazing food he cooked, the stories of his travels, and his gift of making life feel more interesting simply by being in the room.
Michael is survived by his three children; Sara Burns, her husband, Michael, and children Oliver and Benjamin; Michele Wall and her husband, Patrick; and Colin Halter. He is also survived by his ex-wife, Christine; his sister, Debbie; his brother, Mark; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Christopher; and his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25 from 2-4pm at Sweeney Funeral Home in Billerica, MA. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Billerica Food Pantry [details here]
