Obituary for Merritt C. Bricher

The family of Merritt Charles Bricher is deeply saddened to announce his passing on April 8, 2026. Merritt was born on December 14, 1945, in Melrose, MA, to the late Ronald and Phyllis Bricher. He devoted his life to his family and raising his three children with love and patience in Billerica, MA. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of nearly 59 years, Sharyn; his daughter, Kim; son, Michael and his wife Jennifer; his son, Gary and his wife Jennifer; and his grandchildren Andrew, Nicholas, Gracie, Preston, Mikaela, Ellie, and Carson. He also leaves his brothers-in-law Franny and Greg, and sisters-in-law Linda and Pam, and many nieces and nephews who all had a special place in his heart. He is predeceased by his brothers-in-law Eddie and Buddy.

Merritt grew up working for his father at Menotomy Motor Parts in Arlington, MA. This is where he developed his skills to become an accomplished mechanic. He worked for nearly 30 years at the Polaroid manufacturing plant in Waltham, MA, for many years working the third shift. He was a hard-working man who instilled those values in his children.

Merritt showed unconditional love to his family and he was always a person you could count on. He didn’t hesitate to help anyone in need. Merritt loved spending time with his family driving them on his boat on Long Pond in Dracut, MA and in his later years on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH. Merritt lived a life filled with laughter, generosity, love for the outdoors, and the enjoyment of the simple things in life, like bringing Sharyn her coffee in the morning.

A celebration of Merritt’s life will be held at the Sweeney Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica, MA on April 12, 2026 from 1 pm to 4 pm for a wake service. His burial will be held Monday, April 13 at 12 pm at the Fox Hill Cemetery, 130 Andover Rd. in Billerica. The family thanks Hartford Hospital for their support and care during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Center, www.stjude.org
