Obituary for Matilda Diaz
Matilda Diaz – Age 93, wife of the late Anthony R. Diaz Jr., passed away peacefully Tuesday with her loving family by her side.
She was born in Cambridge on May 13, 1925, a daughter of the late Salvatore and Rose (Muccioli) Tartaglia. She moved to Billerica 73 years ago.
She attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin high school and achieved high academic honors there.
She was active in her community, working with the former River Pines Improvement Association and volunteering at the voting polls for every election.
“Tillie” and her husband “Duke” started and ran several local businesses, including “Duke’s Donutland”, a catering business and a home heating oil business (now Buy Rite Fuel).
Later, she was employed at General Electric for over 20 years, as well as Opticorp, Inc. in Chelmsford before her retirement.
She is survived by her sons, Stephen Diaz and his wife Dianne of Billerica and Anthony R. Diaz III and his wife Susan Visken-Diaz of Northford, CT and by three grandchildren; Christine, Stephen and Evan
She loved her beautiful home on the river where she hosted legendary Christmas Eve Parties. She also enjoyed vacationing with family on Martha’s Vineyard.
She was pre-deceased by her daughter and soul-mate, Lorri and was the sister of the late Anthony Tartaglia and Jean Ferolito.
A bright, loving woman and an amazing mother, Tillie will be remembered for her quick wit, sound advice and unwavering support of her children and family.
DIAZ – Of Billerica, Dec. 4, Matilda Diaz, A visitation will be held Saturday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 9-10 a.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Theresa Church at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
