Obituary for Mary Rose Kendig
Mary Rose “Rose” (Henry) Kendig, age 81, beloved wife of the late Rea S. “Buddy” Kendig Jr., who she married in 1962, died Saturday July 2,2022, at the Sawtelle Family Hospice house in Reading after a long struggle with dementia.

She was born in Scotchtown, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Canada the oldest of 10 children of Charles and Mary “Cissy” (Gardiner) Henry and has been a longtime resident of Burlington.

Rosie immigrated to the US at the age of 18 to work as a Nanny for a family in Newton and went on to work for Sweetheart Plastics in Wilmington before moving onto Rockland Trust in Burlington, formerly the Central Coop Bank, where she retired from at the age of 65 as the Head Teller.

She was an active parishioner of St. Malachy’s Church in Burlington, more recently at St. Williams Church in Tewksbury and was and Ecumenical Minister taking communion to patients at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington.

Rose lived to help others and would do everything in her power to help with everything and anything, anyone needed. Her true joy came from spending time with her family, friends, and especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

Rose enjoyed traveling to Canada to visit family and friends. She enjoyed her many trips to Florida; New Jersey; the cruise to Bermuda and she also enjoyed many trips to China Lake, Maine; those memories with her family and friends were very dear to her.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Mantia, her husband Robert, Rea S. “Bud” Kendig III and Stephanie J. West all of Burlington; Stephen Kendig, his wife Kellie of Billerica; her grandchildren, Sheena Higdon, her husband Brian of Maynard, Amanda Naughton, her husband KC of Tewksbury, Christopher Kendig, his wife Laura of Methuen, Michael Mantia of San Jose, CA, Melissa Mantia, her partner JJ of Chelmsford, Ashley Martino, her husband Jacob of Burlington, Tyler Kendig and Ryan Kendig of Billerica; her great-grandchildren, Giuseppe, Giana Rose, Giovanni, Delaney Grace, Cameron, Emma Rose, Michaela Rose, Matthew, Miles, Nikko, Ella Rose and Lorenzo; her siblings George Henry, James Henry, Deborah Henry, Arlene Woodford, and the late Charles Henry, Trina Brewsher, Edward Henry, Delores Hickey and Rhodina Burns.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, July 10, at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Williams’s Church, 1351 Mains St. Tewksbury, Monday July 11 at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Interment will be held privately and at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Assn. www.alz.org
