Obituary for Mary Rose Charlton
Mary Rose (Kearney) Charlton – Of Billerica, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 13, following a long illness. She departed for heaven surrounded by her loving daughter and caring friends. She was 87 years old. Mary was born in Buncrana, Co. Donegal, Ireland on February 19, 1925. Accompanied by her mother, Margaret (McCann) Kearney, she left Ireland at the age of 16 months and traveled on a passenger ship to the U.S. to join her father, William Kearney, who had been residing in Boston. Mary spent her formative years in Forest Hills and West Roxbury. She worked for the F.B.I., the U.S.D.A. and later retired from the V.A. Hospital in Bedford. She met her husband of 33 years, the late Robert Charlton, while working for the Boston Edison Co. Mary was the cherished mother of Diane (Charlton) Hall and beloved grandmother of Elizabeth Rose Hall and Cecilia Grace Hall all of Billerica. She was the devoted sister of Monica Skerry of Newton and Ann McHale of Wellesley. Mary was predeceased by her infant brother, James. She was Auntie Mimi to her many adoring nieces and nephews. She was a communicant of St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish in Billerica. She was a religious education teacher and Girl Scout leader for many years. Mary enriched many lives with her warmth, sense of humor and her loving presence. Her undying love for her family and compassionate nature will long be remembered and sorely missed by the many who loved her. CHARLTON – Of Billerica, Sept. 13, Mary Rose (Kearney) Charlton, Funeral Tuesday from the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 8 a.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa Church in Billerica at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 51 Sleeper St., Boston, MA 02210. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
