Mary E. Coakley – Age 85, wife of the late Walter F. Coakley died peacefully Saturday, April 22 at her home with her family by her side.
She was born in Boston, June 2, 1937, a daughter of Edward F. and Mary K. (Conway) Phillips and was raised in Cambridge and lived in Arlington and Billerica before moving to Chelmsford five years ago.
Mary was employed as a Secretary for the Billerica School Department for 27 years prior to her retirement. After working for the School Department, she worked and volunteered at the Billerica Council on Aging which she enjoyed so much and was a member of TOPS.
She is survived by her daughter, Maureen Howe and her husband Richard of Chelmsford; her sons, Michael Coakley of Chelmsford and James Coakley of Billerica; her sister, Catherine Hansen of Indian Harbor Beach, FL; her brother, John Phillips of Wilmington; her five grandchildren, Deidre, Lindsey and her husband Brett Fulton, Casey, Erica and Elizabeth and her great grandchild, Kiley. She was the sister of the late Edward Phillips and Carol Connarton.
Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 26 at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 4-7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish at St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center, www.lowellgeneral.org Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
