MARY L. HUGHES
Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Sister
Billerica – Mary L. Hughes – Age 78, passed into God’s hands peacefully on Tuesday at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading.
She was born in Lowell, January 5, 1938, a daughter of the late Albert J. and Marguerite V. (McPhee) Tremblay and lived in Stoneham for many years before moving to Billerica where she resided for 52 years.
Though she worked for Raytheon and a local ophthalmologist over the years, Mary’s true passion was being a devoted wife and mother. She was the quintessential homemaker; doing DIY projects all over the house long before it was popular. She was a fantastic cook and loved decorating and entertaining for the holidays. Her grandkids were her pride and joy and she loved spending time with all of them. She lived a life of integrity and was a true example of a strong, loving woman.
She is survived by her daughters, Michele Douglas and her husband Bruce of Concord, NC, Maureen Hughes of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Christine Shewbridge and her husband Bill of Boca Raton, FL; her sons, Brian Hughes of Louisiana, Bruce Hughes and his wife Marge and Jeffrey Hughes and his wife Lisa all of Billerica; her sisters, Helen Yianacopolous of Billerica and Florence Surrette of Nashua. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
HUGHES – Of Billerica, June 14, Mary L. (Tremblay) Hughes, Visiting hours will be held Sunday at the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1-4 PM. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. There will be a celebration of life at the Billerica Country Club at 4:30 PM for all those who wish to join us. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 300 5th Ave., Waltham, MA 02451.
