Obituary for Marion E. Daulton Rogers
Marion E. (Sammet) Daulton Rogers, Age 97 (Former church and funeral home organist) Marion E. (Sammet) Daulton Rogers, age 97, a former resident of Fitchburg, MA recently of The Huntington at Nashua, Nashua, NH, died on March 31, 2014. She was born in Fitchburg on April 21, 1916 a daughter of the late Alfred and Annie (Zink) Sammet. She was the widow of Everett “Jack” Daulton who died in 1979, and the wife of John F. Rogers whom she married in 1981. Mrs. Rogers was a graduate of Fitchburg High School (1934); Boston University and New England Conservatory of Music and The National Piano Foundation. She became a church organist at the age of 15 and served many churches as organist and choir director in the Fitchburg area and throughout Worcester County, lastly at Rollstone Congregational Church in Fitchburg. She was the staff organist at Bosk Funeral Home, Fitchburg, for over 40 years. She played for countless weddings, graduations, musicals and was also a piano and organ teacher for numerous aspiring musicians. While wintering in Estero, FL for many years, she and John were active in Naples United Church of Christ where she served as the organist. She was a former trustee at the Fitchburg Public Library and held memberships in organizations including the Fitchburg Historical Society, Fitchburg Art Museum, Fitchburg Women’s Club, American Guild of Organists, New England Piano teachers Association and National Secretaries Association. Her career, along with her music, was as an executive secretary, working at Crocker Burbank Co.; Weyerhaeuser Co,; James River Papers; Franklin Pierce University and Doehla Greeting Card Co. She is fondly remembered, loved, and admired by her children, especially for her perseverance and fortitude after becoming the sole provider for her family when her husband, “Jack”, suffered a crippling stroke at the age of 38 in 1954, and was out of work for 8 years. In addition to her husband, John, she leaves 2 daughters, June Woollacott Haskell, and her companion Norman Mosley, Nashua, NH and Dr. Bonnie Erickson Mikowetz, Galax, VA; a son. Dennis Daulton, husband of Janis, Rockport, MA; a brother, Ellsworth Sammet, Pittsfield, MA; 3 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons; nieces and nephews; and John’s children. Friends and relatives are cordially invited to a visitation at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica, MA of Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m. Committal services will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery, Fitchburg, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund at The Huntington, 55 Kent Lane, Nashua, NH 03062-2807, which benefits student employees in continuing their education.
