Obituary for Marie E. Callahan
Marie E. Callahan Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother CHELMSFORD – Marie E. (Hunt) Callahan, age 96, beloved wife of the late James Callahan, died Thursday at her home. She was born October 26, 1918, a daughter of the late Charles E. and Lona P. (Hibbard) Hunt and lived in Billerica before moving to Chelmsford 20 years ago. Mrs. Callahan was a graduate of Lexington High School where she was known for her prowess in baseball, field hockey, lacrosse, and basketball. She was recognized as “Most Athletic” in 1937. She worked in Quality Control for BASF in Billerica, was a 4H Leader in Billerica, and was also known for her love of animals, especially her horses and German Shepherd dogs. She is survived by one daughter, Janet Bean, who cared for her mother for many years, and her husband John of Chelmsford; one son, James Callahan, Jr., of Saratoga Springs, NY; one son-in-law, Robert Hookway, of Chelmsford as well as eight grandchildren, Jonathan Bean and his wife Cammy, Michael Bean and his wife Teresa, James Bean and his wife Rachel, Matthew Bean and his wife Cheryl, Christopher Hookway and his wife Jackie, Paige Finnegan, James Callahan, III and his wife Saret, and Michaelene Callahan. She also leaves behind 16 great-grandchildren, Nate, Eliza, Kiki, Mikey, Madeline, Liam, Elliot, Ethan, Lilly, and Kyle Bean, Dayna, Madi, and Adam Hookway, Haleigh Finnegan, and Sabrina and Elijah Callahan. She was the mother of the late Marie Hookway, mother-in-law of the late Mary Ellen Callahan, and sister of the late Hugh “Bud” Hunt, Evelyn Hunt, and Bernice Callahan. CALLAHAN – Of Chelmsford, formerly of Billerica, Feb. 26. Marie E. (Hunt) Callahan. A Funeral Service will be held Monday in the SWEENEY MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica at 12 noon. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
